Danny Pintauro Undergoes Emergency Surgery After Scooter Crash

Danny Pintauro, known for his role as Jonathan on the classic TV series Who’s the Boss?, was hospitalized following a serious scooter accident on Thanksgiving night in November 2024. The crash resulted in a stomach tear and a dangerous infection, requiring emergency open abdominal surgery.

The 48-year-old actor shared his experience with fans on social media weeks later, revealing the severity of his injuries and the emotional impact of the ordeal. In a video update, he showed a large scar across his abdomen and described the recovery process as long and painful, but also filled with gratitude.

Pintauro explained that the accident happened when he was riding a motorized scooter near his home. He lost control and was thrown off the scooter, landing hard on his midsection. At first, he thought the injuries were minor. However, within hours, intense abdominal pain and fever signaled something more serious.

Doctors at the hospital diagnosed him with a torn stomach and internal infection. Emergency surgery was performed to repair the damage and clean out the infected area. Pintauro said the surgery likely saved his life. “I’m lucky to be alive,” he wrote. “If I had waited any longer, things could’ve gone much worse.”

He spent several days in the intensive care unit and remained hospitalized for more than a week. After being discharged, he continued recovery at home with rest, medication, and follow-up care. He also shared that he will need time to rebuild physical strength and energy, but is focused on healing fully.

Pintauro has been open about health challenges in the past. In 2015, he publicly shared that he was HIV-positive and has since become an advocate for health awareness, safe practices, and mental health support. His followers praised him for continuing to be transparent and strong through another life-threatening experience.

In his latest updates, Pintauro didn’t shy away from showing the physical effects of the accident. He posted a photo revealing the surgical scar that runs across his abdomen, saying, “This is what surviving looks like.” The post received hundreds of supportive messages from fans and fellow actors.

Doctors say scooter accidents have become more common with the rise of electric scooters in urban areas. Injuries often involve the head, arms, or abdomen, especially when riders are not wearing protective gear or when visibility is poor. Pintauro did not confirm if he was wearing a helmet or protective clothing at the time.

Despite the trauma, Pintauro is staying positive. He thanked hospital staff, his husband Wil Tabares, and close friends who helped care for him through the recovery process. “I’ve learned once again how quickly life can change,” he wrote. “And how strong the human body—and spirit—really are.”

As of July 2025, Pintauro continues to recover at home. He plans to return to advocacy and public speaking when fully healed. His story serves as a reminder of how fast accidents can happen—and how critical it is to seek care right away.
