TV Star Adan Canto Dead at 42 After Cancer Battle

Adan Canto, the Mexican actor known for his compelling performances in Designated Survivor and The Cleaning Lady, died on January 9, 2025, at the age of 42. The cause of death was appendiceal cancer, a rare and aggressive illness. His passing was confirmed by his family and representatives.

Canto’s death came as a shock to fans and the entertainment community, as the actor had kept his diagnosis private. Despite his illness, he remained active in his work and maintained a strong public presence until recent months.

Born on December 5, 1982, in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, and raised in Texas, Canto began his career as a musician before transitioning into acting. He first found success in Mexico, appearing in television series and films, before making his mark in the United States with English-language roles.

His breakout role came in 2014, when he starred as Paul Torres in the Fox drama The Following. He gained further recognition with his role as Aaron Shore in the political drama Designated Survivor (2016–2019), where he starred opposite Kiefer Sutherland. His portrayal of a principled and composed White House Chief of Staff earned praise for its depth and restraint.

In recent years, Canto starred in The Cleaning Lady, a Fox series where he played gangster Arman Morales. His performance, marked by charisma and emotional complexity, was central to the show’s growing popularity and earned him a dedicated fan base.
